Stanmore Public School Book Week 2020

Library borrowing resumes this week with each student able to borrow one book each week.

Please return any books borrowed last term. This can be done at the weekly library lesson or books can be put in the book tubs in the library foyer.

The books are isolated for at least 24 hours before they are scanned and shelved.

Stanmore Writing Competition

Our annual Stanmore Writing Competition closes next Friday, 31st July.

The competition is open to all students from Kindergarten to Year Six and the word limit length can be 500 – 800 words.

Entries can be put in the orange box in the library or emailed to Ms Deb Abela here.

Ms Deb reads and judges all entries.

Book Week 2020

Book Week this year will be celebrated during term 4 and the theme is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds.

This term in library we are reading and sharing all the wonderful picture books and novels nominated for awards this year to make connections to these books and inspire a love of reading.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Finally the Premier’s Reading Challenge completion date is Friday, 28th August.  The PRC booklists show a huge amount of quality literature for each age group and interest.

The Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 reading logs are compiled by Mrs Metzner and consist of a list of 30 books that have been read aloud to students during library or class lessons.

Students in Years 3 to 6 independently create online reading logs of 20 books they have read during the year. This process has been covered during library lessons. Usually, students are required to read the books independently but this year they can record books that teachers or parents have read with them or to them. Also this year students can add 10 books that are not on the PRC list. Students log on using their school username and password.

Certificates are awarded and arrive at school in early December.
