The 2018 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge is now well underway! The challenge is open to all students, in three categories and closes on Friday, August 31, 2018.
Students in kindergarten to Year 2 have 30 books read to them from the K-2 PRC List through the library program. Ms Metzner and Ms Pollack create the Reading Logs for K-2 students.
Students in Years 3-4 and Years 5-6 must independently read a total of 20 books (15 from the appropriate list + 5 own choice). Students may select from their appropriate list and/or from lists above their own – e.g. a Year 4 student completing the 3-4 challenge may choose titles from the 3-4, 5-6 or 7-9 lists.
Students have started their online Reading Log from the PRC site during library lessons and now maintain their Reading Log to register the books they have read.
Many books in the library have been labelled with a sticker to show they are on the PRC list – a green dot for stage 2 books and a yellow dot for stage 3. This is to make it easier for students to spot the books.
More information may be found at the Premier’s Reading Challenge website.
The praise keeps on coming for author Jessica Townsend. Her award winning debut novel, Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow, has been named Book of the Year at the 2018 Indie Book Awards. The Indie Book Awards are chosen by independent booksellers to reward and promote excellence in Australian writing. Nevermoor has also claimed the title of best children’s fiction at the 2017 Aurealis Awards given for best Australian SF and fantasy writing.
We have six copies of Nevermoor in the library for those looking to read it.
