A great way to inspire writing, illustrating and reading.
Last week author Deb Abela spoke to kindergarten, year 1 and year 2 students about her picture book “Bear in Space”, describing how the story began when she visited the zoo with a group of authors and illustrators and they saw a rescue bear named Mr Hobbs. Her friend and illustrator, Marjorie Crosby-Fairall, drew Mr Hobbs and they collaborated to create the book.
The students were fascinated with the background story and Ms Deb outlined her inspiration and the process of writing and book creation.
She explained that being curious was a big part in writing and urged the students to write and explained that she wrote often when she was young. Deb also gave the students a space quiz and was amazed at their interest and knowledge!
Not only did the students leave the library bubbling with enthusiasm over the talk, but throughout the following week, lots of books about space were borrowed.
