The activities listed below take place at school after hours. Parents will need to contact the personnel who provide the service to make arrangements for their child to participate. There is a cost involved and payment will also need to be made directly to the personnel with the exception of Chess which is run by the school and payment is to be made to the school.

Learn to be a chess champion! Coaching for students at Stanmore Public School is held on:
- Tuesdays from 3:10pm to 4:10pm, starting on 4 February 2020
Beginners to intermediate all welcome.
Learning and playing chess helps children develop their thinking and problem solving skills, improves their concentration and focus, while also being a great source of enjoyment. Activities include group lessons on a demonstration chess board or interactive whiteboard, puzzle solving and fun practice games.
Students earn merit awards by making checkmates, or by displaying skills and positive qualities, which all good chess players strive to develop.

- Years 3/4: Tuesdays 3:00pm – 4:30pm
- Years 5/6: Wednesdays 3:00pm – 4:30pm
The aim of the class is for children to have fun while exploring a range of methods and materials, as well as learning key concepts and skills to help improve their understanding and ability. While a range of materials will be used over the year, the class does place more of a focus on drawing than any other media, as drawing is a fundamental skill necessary to working in any other artistic discipline. A range of drawing media such as graphite, charcoal, pastels, oil pastels and markers will be used. Other methods and materials that may be explored during the year include clay, watercolour and acrylic paints, mixed media collage, and printmaking.
Children will work on a range of small and large projects, and document their creative process in their sketchbooks. Each term, there will be a theme which will be the main focus of study. Students will learn key concepts within the theme, and produce one or more projects based on their learning. For more information, take a look at the curriculum page.
